feelin:
gee double oh.. good
a moment:
life on the street for a homeless individual does not, for the majority, occur because of his unwillingness to give life a chance.. his unfortunate situation did not happen by choice, but rather, by the fact that employment for a person who does not look "fitting" in society, lack familial support, and constantly receives discriminative and uncompassionate stares from passerbyers continue to keep them at that level.. many people riding on untamed misery become bitter and digress to a state of isolation.. a gentle touch, a caring heart, a willing ear, a thoughtful donation and time are all they need to escape from this harsh reality, even if it is but a moment..
why i feel so good?
12 girls and 1 boy.. what to do w/ these people? how about set them out on a mission? a mission established by our predecessors.. one that will bring about peace and reconciliation with the plan our Father gave us. with big hearts & 2 sack lunches, these young, vivacious individuals set out to the campus ministry-sponsored activity "feed the homeless." at first, i was nervous to approach the homeless because i did not want to offend them by offering "pity donations," as one lady puts it. but as we walked around 3rd street promenade, i began to see the unfortunate people who might need the lunch to sustain them for the night.. my colleagues began to dispense the sack lunches; but i still had the ones in my hand. i finally boosted up & approached an elderly lady. i knelt in front of her so that when we converse, we're at the same level.. the reason i bent down is not to say that i'm lowering myself to her level, but it's a symbolic "i'm here to serve you".. servitude - we are all called to serve others from the moment of baptism.. there was a certain sparkle in her eyes. if only there were no time constraints, i would have talked to her more.. my last sack was given to a man in his mid-40's.. unapproachable & bitter was he; refused to accept the bag at first, but conversation made it a light situation.. just the smile on their faces -- invaluable!
I'm going to stop procrastinating ... once I get around to it.
